Buite roep 'n jakkals en dit pas so half by hierdie eensaam bestaan. Gelukkig is dit van more af beter, want my enigste en einste kom kuier!

Now what!?...

I wrote yesterday that I would know today how serious my offishness is/was, it turns out I have Chickenpox! Not a good thing for transplant wannabee such as me. Now I have to take preventative antiviral antibiotics to protect my lungs against pneumonia. I had to drive to town to collect these and a parcel Marlene had sent me, (more antibiotics) and what do I find, a post office full of all the west rand mine workers, trying to draw their month-end pay all at once and post office personnel working at go-slow pace. I leave to drive around town and then out of boredom go for a hair cut in a salon, the second time in my life...The barber must have wondered.. as my hair was only about 12mm long and none the less I ask him; "please, do my hair ...number 1" After that, browsed the tackle shop and back to the post office to find the situation even worse as they had closed for lunch while I was away. I dropped everything else I wanted to do out of frustration, bought a piece of steak to prepare for supper and returned home. Arriving here I walk into the suspect scenario where foreign people towing a diesel cart are loitering around, when they see my vehicle arriving they speed away in a great cloud of dust. Never say never and now what!?...

Offish

I woke up Sunday morning feeling dull headed and achy and spent the whole day sitting under a blanket feeling flueish. Bombed myself with aspirin and ascorbic acid hoping to kill what ever is brooding. Today was better but spent the day in much the same manner trying to recover. By tomorrow I should now how serious this is or was. Hoping it will be a "was". I am looking forward to Marlene's first visit and she is due to be arriving on Thursday. My neighbours have left to go on holiday and will only be back in a week so I have the Kakibosvlakte just about to myself. "Kakibos" is the name for a weed related to hemp and slightly related to cannabis and "vlakte" is a plain, so the name of this blog is a description of this place. "Mielievlakte" (Corn plain) would probably have been more accurate as hundreds of thousand of tons of white and yellow maize is currently being harvested in this area. The image shows the view when riding a harvester. Harvesting starts at about 08:30 and continues to 22:00, outside of these times the moisture content may be to high due to overnight condensation. A high moisture content (above 14%) negatively affects long term grain storage ability.
