The calm after a Mamba bite

A friend was recently telling of a person he knows who survived a Black Mamba bite. The victim apparently said afterward that if Mamba bite was not associated with certain death he would "go for it again" as the neurotoxic venom induced an extreme calm feeling. He felt this way while being in a state of near death, unable to move or make a sound but still aware of what was going on around him while he was put on life support.

The "feeling" this person described reminded me of something similar described by Allison, survivor of a very brutal rape and murder attempt in her book; I have life, Alison's journey.

I am reminded of a promise someone made who said something in the line of "...in your darkest hour I will be with you..."
